Surviving Spouse

Deceased is male (up to 4)

Parents & Children

Only counted if no children & no father

How to Use This Calculator

1

Enter Estate Value

Enter the total gross estate — the sum of all assets (cash, property, investments) left by the deceased. Enter in any currency; shares are calculated proportionally.

2

Deduct Debts

Islamic law requires all debts (loans, bills, funeral costs) to be paid before any distribution. Enter the total outstanding debts; the calculator subtracts these automatically.

3

Bequest (Wasiyyah)

A Muslim may leave a voluntary bequest, but only up to one-third (1/3) of the net estate after debts. Any amount over 1/3 is automatically capped. Leave as 0 if there is no bequest.

4

Specify Surviving Heirs

Select each surviving heir. Father and Mother are separate fields. Siblings only inherit if there are no children and no father. A husband means the deceased was a woman; wives mean the deceased was a man.

5

Read the Results

Each heir's share is shown as a monetary amount and percentage bar. A warning appears if 'Aul (proportional reduction) was applied because fixed shares exceeded 100%.

Important: This tool applies mainstream Fara'id principles. For complex cases (grandfather, paternal grandmother, uterine siblings) please consult a qualified Islamic scholar (mufti).

Key Concepts

A

'Aul — Proportional Reduction

If the sum of all fixed shares exceeds the estate, each share is reduced proportionally. This is called 'Aul (increase of shares). The calculator applies this automatically.

B

Ta'seeb — Residuary Shares

After fixed shares are distributed, any remainder goes to residuary heirs (asaba). Sons are the primary residuaries; a son always receives double the share of a daughter.

C

Hajb — Blocking

Closer heirs block more distant ones. A father blocks paternal uncles; sons block brothers. This calculator handles all standard blocking rules for the heirs listed above.

Fixed Share Reference (Fard)

Qur'anic prescribed shares (Al-Nisa 4:11-12, 4:176). Actual amounts depend on which other heirs are present.
